Givenchy SS13 Collection: Fashion? Art? Controversial? You Decide..
Looking ahead to the spring/summer season, not only am I in search of definitive ready-to-wear collections, I’ve also adapted the habit of keeping an open eye and mind for more avant-garde style garments. Riccardo Tisci’s SS13 offering for Givenchy is definitely one I would place in the latter.
Since taking over the creative reigns from the famed French luxury design house, Riccardo has successfully integrated his “dark themed” presence into these deeply personal collections. The SS13 Menswear line proved to be no different. The show itself featured an “out of this world” musical arrangement that produced an almost ethereal element. One by one, models paraded down the runway in monochromatic outfits of white and black featuring an interesting play on contrasting silhouettes.
Two reoccurring looks featured one with a form-fitting suit jacket, slim, cropped trousers and an inner layer that draped across the front like an apron and/or the back like a fishtail design. My favorite ensemble featured the same fitted trousers, draped apron inner garment, which was than covered by a short-sleeved top depicting a graphic image of the Virgin Mary. This one is definitely a collection to remember.
Curious? Take a look for yourself:
Here are some tops featuring that very same controversial depiction. What are your thoughts?
